A middle-aged man on Sunday killed his wife before committing suicide in Makunga, Trans Nzoia County.
According to a report by the Standard, the crime may have stemmed from an alleged extramarital affair.
At around 3am, a commotion was heard from the couples house attracting the attention of neighbours who rushed to the house to find out what was going on.
On reaching the house, the neighbours found Caren Chebet lying in a pool of blood while her husband Stephen Kagumo was hanging from a rope in a separate room.
"We found the woman lying in a pool of blood on the bed and the husband had hanged himself using a rope in another room," Kenedy Barasa who is a neighbour of the couple stated as quoted by the Standard.
Caren Chebet's sister who was staying with the couple revealed that an argument had erupted between the two and her brother-in-law threatened to kill her when she tried to intervene.
"When I rushed to their room, I found my brother-in-law with a machete in his hand quarrelling with the wife. When I inquired what it was about, my brother-in-law threatened to kill me," she said.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Ayub Ali confirmed the incident and urged couples to resolve their disagreements amicably.
"The man killed his wife in a heinous manner and then hanged himself. In this kind of situation, I urge couples to always speak out their problems to prevent such incidents," said the police boss.
