The market was built during John Nyagarama's first term in office; in 2016 but has remained cordoned off leaving business operators crying foul.

Ochari Nyakemo, a business operator in the area took the governor to task to explain why the market is yet to be opened three years down the line yet its construction is complete.

"We don't understand the reason why the market that was built years ago has not been opened. It could be that, maybe, they have misused the funds allocated for the market operations," said Ochari.

He petitioned the county government to open the market and allow business people to operate and develop Nyamira.

"I would like to urge our leaders of Nyamira County to come and open up this structure to help us to continue with our business in a conducive manner  especially now when the rains are greatly affecting how we are doing it."

Ruth Moraa, a small scale trader in Magwagwa said she had hopes of bettering her future after the completion of the market in 2016 but her hope has faded hitherto.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Gesami Nyakundi who noted that "the issue is a let down to Nyamira voters."

He took Nyamira leaders to the task to explain why they have done nothing to ensure that the market is in operation three years down the line.

However, Nominated MCA from Magwagwa ward Abel Aneti on Thursday said they have been in talks with Nyagarama in a bid to have the market opened in January.

"We are in talks with our governor to ensure that the building is opened officially opened as the New Year starts. This will ensure that business operators get a conducive working environment."
