Since independence, Kenya has four presidents and all of them have awarded Philip Toikan Ole Lemein for his distinguished services as a scout to the nation.
In entirety, every president always has his preferences to those who receive awards but for Philip, it is an amazing coincidence.
Recently, he was awarded the Silver Lion Medal (SLM) by President Uhuru Kenyatta for his phenomenal character as a scout.
“This award goes to him for his dedication and service since independence,” President Kenyatta said.
The first President, Jomo Kenyatta honoured him in 1968 followed by President Daniel Arap Moi who honoured him with Long Service Decoration for his competent services to the scout movement. He also received a Head of State Commendation (HSC) in 2012 from former President Mwai Kibaki for his notable services in District Peace Committee.
This man has as well a decorated political career. He attended the Lancaster House Conference in 1963 and elected for a senate seat before it was abolished. He was the first Member of Parliament for Narok South Constituency amid 1966-1969 and was a founder member of Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU).
“I had joined active politics in June the previous year when former President Daniel Arap Moi and Hon Justus ole Tipis approached me to form a new political party, KADU,” he said.
