A sombre mood on Wednesday engulfed Kisumu after an elderly man was knocked by an overspeeding speeding matatu.
Joseph Odembo, as he was later identified, was hit by the vehicle belonging to Kitoma Sacco as he was moving along the Kisumu-Kakamega road.
Speaking to the Standard, Grace Ogot, who was among the passengers in the matatu, said that the vehicle was heading from Kisumu to Nyahera before veering off the road, hitting the 55-year old man who died on the spot.
She also pointed out that the driver had ignored their calls to drive slowly since the area has been labeled a black spot.
"We were about eight passengers in the vehicle and we became concerned with the way the driver was driving the vehicle," said Ogot, as quoted by the Standard said.
The family of the deceased said that they were expecting the man home before they were informed about his tragic death.
