A man and woman survived death by a whisker in Kitere market,Rongo constituency on Tuesday after an angry mob descended on them ruthlessly for conning an MPESA agent.
According to Edwin Onger'a an Mpesa attendant the two came to his shop pretending to be customers.
"They came to my shop and asked whether they can withdraw money,I told them yes they could provided they had the identity card.The man told me he had withdrawn the money and that his phone battery had run down.He asked me to give him the Sh7,000 he had withdrawn and have his phone get charged.On receiving the money the two disappeared never to return," Ongera noted.
The two were later found by the residents trying to try the con another attendant after Ongera had raised an alarm.
The two had the area Chief, Erick Ochieng who arrived at the scene and calmed the mob. He urged the MPESA attendants to be careful while dealing with any transactions.
"I urge all MPESA attendants in this area to be careful while carrying out any transaction in there premises.The young man who was conned would not have been a victim if he had practiced caution and even asked the two suspects to produce their ID before giving them money,"the chief noted.
The two were taken to Rongo police station.
