Kisii Governor James Ongwae has hit out at a section of elected Members of Parliament from the county who have joined Tangatanga team, a political group pushing for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidency.
Speaking on Monday after he assented to the Kisii County Appropriations Bill for the 2019/2020 budget, Ongwae expressed concerns that the MPs had resorted to politicking instead of prioritizing development.
"Regrettably, leaders elected to champion for development are busy joining Tangatanga and talking too much about 2022 polls and succession instead of putting their energies in serving the electorates," he noted.
The county boss who won re-election on an ODM ticket warned that continued politicking will derail development.
He appealed to the legislators who have joined DP Ruto's side to stop dragging other leaders like Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i into politics.
"I at times wonder why the MPs in Tangatanga talk about Matiang'i at rallies yet the CS is not a politician. I urge the lawmakers to keep off Matiang'i's name at political functions. It is too early for politicians to talk about 2022 yet there are campaign promises yet to be met," said Ongwae.
He also pointed out that unnecessary political groups are unwelcome in the county given that it is not time to talk about who should be the next president.
