The leaders have dismissed a proposal by former Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura to reserve the post of the prime minister for the opposition in a coalition government arrangement.

Led by Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, the leaders argued that an election loser doesn’t deserve to be part of the government.

They said that it is not a crime to be in the opposition, adding that leaders must be ready to accept the outcome of an election.

Kindiki noted that opposition plays an immense role in the administration of any country and it should not be considered a curse to be part of it. He made the remarks at Mukothima Primary School in Tharaka Nithi constituency where he had attended a fundraiser.

“This is a proposal aimed at creating positions for election losers through the reintroduction of the office of the prime minister,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

His remarks were reiterated by Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki who claimed that some forces at State House are using Muthaura to attempt to block Deputy President Ruto from ascending to power when President Uhuru Kenyatta completes his second and final term in office.

Mbiuki noted that poll losers must be prepared to go home and not hang around waiting for a coalition government.
