The two leaders had initially claimed they would stage a parallel meeting at Nabongo Sports Ground in Mumias on the same day. Police officers, however, cancelled the Mumias rally on the grounds of insecurity.

Wetangula and Mudavadi had earlier on opposed the meeting at Bukhungu stadium which is meant to popularize and draw support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi who doubles up as the Bungoma County Ford Kenya chairman confirmed that Wetangula will attend the rally at Bukhungu.

“Wetang’ula is a leader in this region and we have asked him to come to the meeting. I want to confirm he won’t attend the Mumias meeting since it was cancelled by the police and there is nobody in Mumias. I’m talking as Ford Kenya chairman in Bungoma and he (Wetang’ula) will join us,” he stated,

Lurambi MP Titus Khamala revealed that Mudavadi had disclosed to him that he will attend the Bukhungu meeting that has been organized by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

“I want to assure you that my party leader Musalia Mudavadi has confirmed that he will attend the BBI meeting today. I have prayed for him and he will be here tomorrow. We are not party to that meeting in Mumias town,” Khamala noted.
