Speaking on Tuesday at a Nairobi hotel, Mwendwa expressed frustration from the sports ministry, and that despite of, federation applying for funds nothing has been forthcoming.

Mwendwa argued that since the exit of the betting firms sponsorship; things have not been well as they have overstretched their budget to the extend of dipping into their pockets to fund the national teams; a thing that has forced them to cancel Harambee Starlets training camp due to lack of money.

"We have no sponsor, what do you want us to do. It's sad for football. We are asked the issue of accountability, yet other sports aren't a case of golf. We are operating on debt," Mwendwa said.

In addition, Mwendwa bemoaned Sports PS Kirimi Kaberia of being a hindrance to the funding of the football on the guise of integrity question.

He said FKF books were in order and that they had provided to the ministry all documentation, yet the ministry through PS Kaberia has not responded to their funding request.

He asked the PS to tell football fraternity if he has a problem funding football and other major sports such as the rugby and athletics.

"The PS must tell us why he doesn't want to fund the women and men national soccer teams. Despite of, us applying for the funds there has been no respond. Is there a problem in funding women football, what it is? The PS must tell us. He has told us previously that the money is there. We have written to them yet no respond despite of President assurance. What mistake have we done that the PS is not telling us to rectify?"  Mwendwa questioned.

The FKF boss who is seeking a re-election, lamented of the football being accused of many things despite of it undertaking various programs such us youth teams, coaches and referees training with the FIFA grants.

"We are only asking the funding of the national team, both men and women.Today we are clear and we are leaving things in the PS court, to tell us what is the problem?" Mwendwa wondered.

He said said that if the ministry does not come to their aid, they will be forced to forfeit the Tokyo 2020 Women Olympic qualifiers match against Zambia slated for 4th November in Nairobi
