Friday marked 50th anniversary of perhaps one of Kenya's defining moment when top politicians clashed in a public function following ideological differences.
At Kisumu during the commissioning of New Nyanza Hospital (Russia), Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Jomo Kenyatta came head-on, two years after their fallout.
The event also came just three months after the murder of Tom Mboya, a leading government minister and a trade unionist in 1969.
After deadly clashes that led to the death of several people, Kenyatta proceeded to the venue of the function where Jaramogi Oginga was also part of guests.
In his speech, Kenyatta couldn't hesitate to fire at Jaramogi, accusing him of inciting residents against his administration.
"This thing called Kenya People's Union cannot help you. I have asked my friend Odinga to stop inciting people. There is nothing you gain by doing so," he said.
"Instead, let him help you to get income. But waking up every morning to make noise won't help you at all. Let him stop propaganda."
But in response while Kenyatta was talking, Oginga accused him of neglecting the people of Nyanza, adding that the residents were going through hard times.
"I have enough food in my home and I am not goverment. These people are hungry and it's your goverment that is responsible for that," he said.
Although Kenyatta and Odinga differed politically, the former did not frustrate the latter from conducting his business across the country.
Jaramogi remained frozen in government related activities, following the goverment's decision to burn the opposition Kenya People's Union.
