Technological innovation is becoming a major economic and social development accelerator in today's world.
Kenyan youths have not been left behind as they are now taking innovation seriously.
In Kiambu town, we meet Zachaeus Wamiti who is the first Kenyan to innovate an electronic substitution board. Wamiti's substitution board is a great innovation as Kenya football still uses manual boards.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Hivisasa, Wamiti explains about his innovation and what motivated him to embark on the project.
"It's an electronic substitution board, if you do watch football or even have seen people playing football, there is a period where a coach decides to substitute a player maybe because he is not able to continue playing or he is tired and in Kenya and most countries in Africa; we use plastic boards and I decided to make an electronic one mainly used in Europe," he said.
Wamiti noted that he used skills he learned in college as an electronic engineering student to complete his project.
"I used skills that I acquired from college where I did electrical and electronic engineering," he noted.
The 28-year-old has a small workshop where he has been working since last year and hopes to make more innovations.
Wamiti, however, cites that the main challenge he faced is lack of market and support now calling upon local leaders to suppport him in the marketing of his innovation.
