A primary school headteacher died on Tuesday evening after a tree fell on him. The incident happened at Bundo village in Township ward Nyamira County.
Area Nyumba Kumi chairman Joseph Onkundi said the headteacher identified as Panam Nyakamba was crossing the road when two men who were cutting the tree asked him to help them push it.
"Two men who were cutting the tree asked the deceased to help them push it so that it does not fall across the road. Unfortunately, the tree fell on Nyakamba," Onkundi said.
Nyamira County commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident saying the victim was rushed to Nyamira County Hospital where he died.
"The deceased died on arrival at Nyamira Hospital where he had been rushed to for treatment. His body was moved to the hospital morgue. The incident has left everyone in shock though," he stated.
Mariba said the two men who were cutting the tree will be interrogated to establish the circumstances under which the tree fell on the deceased.
He urged residents to be careful while cutting down trees to avoid unnecessary accidents and deaths.
