A family in Naivasha of a four-year-old pupil with autism who died on Monday during a school trip is demanding for justice.
The management of Little Hands Academy has been put on the spot after the pupil, Dalton Gichimu, drowned in River Malewa in Naivasha.
Paul Macharia, the father, said parents were not informed of the school trip until when tragedy struck adding that the site chosen for the picnic was unsafe even for adults.
Macharia, a father of three, who accused the school of negligence said he took his son to Little Hands Academy because his son suffered from autism and needed special care and attention which the school was offering.
“As parents, we were not aware that our child had been taken for the picnic until we received a call from the school about the tragedy. The area has a very steep cliff and it’s even unsafe for adults. I wonder why the management of the school settled on the location in the first place.”
“It took the teachers over an hour to realise that my son was missing and by the time they tracked him, they found his body floating in the river,” said Macharia as quoted by Standardmedia.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said they have launched investigations into the Monday incident.
“We are investigating the matter to determine if there was negligence on the part of the school and if there is any evidence, the law will take its course,” said Waweru.
