Three notorious cattle rustlers were on Tuesday apprehended in possession of a stolen cow.
The three suspects whose identity could not be established were arrested in Esani village, Masaba North in Nyamira County where they had taken the cow they stole from Enchoro village on the Monday night.
Enchoro chief Richard Moeche confirmed the arrest saying residents from Enchoro traced the suspects at Esani.
"The suspects had reached a slaughterhouse in Esani ready to sell the stolen cow when residents busted them. They tried to run away in vain as residents chased and nabbed them," said the chief.
The administrator said the suspects were given a dog's beating before they were rescued by police officers who were on patrol.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba noted that the suspects are in lawful custody awaiting to be charged in court on Wednesday.
"The three men are in custody helping police to name other cattle rustlers who have been stealing livestock. The will be thrown to jail to serve as an example," said Mariba.
The commissioner assured that police officers have intensified a search to flush out cattle rustlers from their hideouts.
