Uasin Gishu Centre for Human Rights and Democracy programme officer Kipkorir Ngetich now wants Rift valley leaders to hold dialogue with President Uhuru Kenyatta concerning the eviction of people from Mau forest.

He said this is the only way to solve the Mau stalemate once and for all and not through political rallies and blame games.  

“Instead of Rift Valley leaders playing the blame game on the Mau issue they should find a way of reaching to the president and have a conversation on the same,” said Ngetich. 

Ngetich made the remarks while addressing journalists in Eldoret Town on Tuesday. 

“Politicians should stop politicising the issue since it will bring more harm than good for the people living in the forest. It will bring enmity between the people and this might bring about war,” he added. 

He noted that as much as the Mau Forest needs to be conserved, the rights of people should also be given priority noting that they should be given alternative land to settle in. 

Ngetich further called on the government to carry out the eviction process in a humane manner, adding that the occupants' houses should not be burnt down.
