Speaking in Tinderet on Sunday, he said there will be no need to vie for the presidency if the position will not have any powers.

"If the constitutional changes are made to give the Prime Minister executive powers then, Ruto will contest for the seat," said Melly who is the National Assembly Education Committee chairman.

"As leaders from the region we will meet and advise our leader William Ruto to denounce his bid for the presidency and go for the press minister post once the constitution is changed through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI)," he added.

This comes after a section of leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga called for the introduction of a powerful Prime Minister.

He, however, called on Kenyans to support Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.
