Deputy President William Ruto threw his weight behind the national census during a rally in Luanda.

Speaking to residents on Friday, he called on all Kenyans to avail themselves in their numbers ahead of the decennial exercise.

"Let us make sure that all Kenyans here in Luanda and Vihiga and other places in Kenya come out in their numbers to be counted so that we can dispense our duties as the government in accordance with the constitution and the laws of our country Kenya (Tuhakikishe ya kwamba watu katika kila pembe ya Kenya hapa Luanda na Vihiga na sehemu zote za Kenya wamwejitokeza na wamehesabiwa ndio tuweze kutekeleza wajibu wetu kama serikali jinsi ndivyo inapaswa kulingana na katiba na sheria ya taifa letu la kenya), " the deputy president said

The national census will kick off Saturday from 6 p.m with the government assuring that all the resources required to make it a success will be provided.

Political leaders from across the spectrum have been keen to emphasise on the significance of the census, pointing out how it will help the government in economic planning. 

There were fears of disruption after youths claiming that the recruitment was marred with favouritism said they would disrupt the exercise.

The government has assured that there will be enough security and that those keen on disruption will be firmly dealt with.
