Sections of Jubilee and ODM leaders on Sunday exchanged words over plans to create prime minister position as suggested in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
There was a showdown at the burial of ODM party chairman Charles Nampaso at Aitong, Narok West Constituency when leaders from both camps met at the venue.
Raila’s allies indicated that they are ready for President Uhuru Kenyatta to assume the position of the prime minister after he completes his second and final term in government.
Led by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the leaders said that there is no reason to debate over a position that is yet to be created.
Sifuna also said that the President has not declared that he will be contesting for the position of the Prime Minister as perceived.
He insisted that there is no need to cross bridges before we reach them, adding that Kenyans should be patient for the right time to decide to come.
“President Kenyatta has not declared that he will vie for the PM position. How can someone vie for a position that is yet to be created?” he posed.
Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta said that they also prepared to retain Uhuru in government as Prime Minister if the report is adopted at the end of the day.
The stand of the two leaders, however, did not augur well with some of the Jubilee leaders.
Emurua Dikir MP Johanna Ng’eno, David Sankok (nominated) and Narok Woman Rep Soipan Tuya insisted that the head of state has to pave way for another leader in an apparent reference to DP William Ruto once completing his tenure in office.
Before the release of the BBI report, Uhuru, who spoke during a meeting at the Sagana State Lodge, said he has no problem being the next prime minister of this nation if needed.
