Agriculture is one of the most important economic activities that most persons in Kenya practice to earn income to use in running they lives.
To promote the activity Uasin Gishu County Government under the leadership of Governor Jackson Mandago has put measures to promote Coffee farming in the area.
Speaking on Friday at Teachers' Advisory Centre (TAC) when he hosted North Rift Economic Bloc NOREB meeting, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno noted that programme was in place to empower coffee farmers in the region.
"As a government,we shall provide 150,000 coffee seedlings to farmers this year.in addition we will plant another 500,000 seedlings at a nursery in Chebororwa," Chemno said.
Chemno appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture under the national government to increase the money set aside for farmers.
The meeting was held to weigh in on the recommendation forwarded by the Coffee Sector Implementation Committee put in place by the President.
Chemno added that avocado and coffee farming in the region had boomed over the last two years,and that they had even joined international coffee and avocado growers.
"For the last two years alone the size of acreage under avocado and coffee has tremendously increased.we have now joined global family of coffee and avocado growers," he added.
