Deputy President William Ruto came from an extremely poor family, one of his brothers has finally opened up.
David Ruto narrated to the Star about their difficult upbringing, which often saw them walking bare feet to their responsible schools.
"We were poor. We (siblings) walked to school which was four kilometres away every day barefoot," David recounts.
DP William Ruto has never hidden their challenges as children, admitting that he first wore shoes when he joined Wareng High School.
The DP also confessed sometimes back that he used to sell chicken in Turbo and some parts of Uasin Gishu County.
David's road to prominence as a businessman, Masters graduate from Capella University, USA and a philanthropist began with a rocky childhood.
His brother says he does not work for the government but will at times move around the country as a messenger.
"I do not work for the Government. I am equivalent to a messenger, I visit any part of the country in discriminatory as every part of Kenya is important. I witness the problems and speak to the area MP for an amicable solution," he said.
"We just do not want to hear stories from people of problems that residents in an area are facing. We are making a point to visit the area and ensure action is taken last week we were at the interior of Mathare slums."
Ruto says that during the time they were growing up, there were no proper roads within Uasin Gishu County.
"There were no roads in the village I was brought up in Uasin Gishu...It was a forgotten area in the interior," he said.
