Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has announced plans to revamp Maendeleo Chap Chap Party as he anticipates to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta after he completes his second tenure in office.
In an exclusive interview with kenyans.co.ke, Mutua said that the party will be recruiting volunteers, electing party officials and aspirants in different areas of administration.
He noted that the party will come up with a committee and polling station volunteers by February 15 after which it will conduct elections for the sub-branch, branch and executive committee.
"We want to establish ourselves as a party based on ideology. We see a lot of parties now are falling apart. We see what is happening in Jubilee, we see what is happening to Wiper, we see a lot of briefcase parties formed just to win an election. We want to tell people this is a party that is going to be there forever," Mutua asserted.
The governor has affirmed that time has come for him to ascend to power. He has alluded that he is the best person to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta when his term ends.
He has also urged Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo to allow him to lead the community to rise to power. He has reiterated that he is the right man to take over the leadership mantle in the Kamba community.
