Political analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi has predicted that a contest between Raila Odinga and DP William Ruto will be one of the most dramatic in the history of Kenya.

While Ruto has announced his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mr Odinga has been a little cautious over his next plan.

The two worked together in 2007 and enjoy considerable support from across the country. They are viewed as front runners in 2022 presidential race.

According to Ngunyi, should the two face-off, the country will have to wait a little bit longer to get a clear winner, arguing that they will go for a runoff.

With an option of Supreme Court, he adds, the election period could last for several months following a precedent set by the apex court in 2017.

Ngunyi also says the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report did not offer solutions on how to handle election disputes.

"#BBIReport did not RESOLVE the problem of CONTESTED elections every 5 years. If Ruto runs against Babaman, we will have a RUN-OFF. And the election will go on for 6 Months or more given the 'MARAGA EFFECT'. Solution: Parliamentary SYSTEM," he tweeted.

In 2017, Uhuru's victory was nullified by Supreme Court forcing a run off which was eventually boycotted by Mr Odinga.

The BBI report was launched last week and President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Kenyans to read it before giving their opinions that will guide final draft.

“Let us just take time to got through it together and to come out with good things that can make our country even better, more united and that make our institutions more inclusive,” Uhuru said as quoted by the Star.
