Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has told Kenyans to prepare themselves to take a second look into the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) debate.
The leader, who founded the BBI push alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta, made the remarks only a month after the BBI taskforce handed over its report on the constitutional amendments needed for a better country.
Speaking in Bondo in Siaya county on Wednesday, he said that the report will be taken back to Kenyans so that they can go through it and make their preferred corrections.
"From next year we will have a robust debate on BBI recommendations. They are not cast on stone. We will be open to any proposal so that what is implemented is agreeable to all," said the former Prime Minister.
Raila spoke during a Christmas service at the Nyamira ACK church.
He also dismissed claims that he is opposed to the document being implemented through the parliament and is instead of the opinion that it should be taken through a referendum.
Raila said that it's upon Kenyans to choose what they want for the document. While also rallying Kenyans behind it, he termed it the avenue to the country realizing its independence dream.
"I want to thank you for agreeing to stand firm and remaining patient amidst difficult economic times but the initiative we have embarked on will get us there," said Raila.
He was accompanied by among others Siaya Senator James Orengo and MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and Sam Atandi (Alego Usonga).
