Vihiga County Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala has decried widespread incest and rape in Western Kenya.
Speaking on Friday in Kakamega to Kenya Television Network (KTN), the legislator said that women from the region were being subjected to sexual abuse.
"Like in this part of Kenya western, Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, there is a lot of incest. Our girls are being raped. Defiled right, and left. Here in Kakamega there is a lot of gender-based violence," said the county MP.
She said that women leaders will not relent in their efforts to deal with gender-based violence, vowing to take the campaign to all the 47 counties.
Adagala was flanked by other female leaders who are members of the Embrace Movement and are vocal supporters of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
The Embrace Movement continues to style itself as a group whose agenda is driven by issues affecting women across the country.
Members have vowed to bring to justice men who rape and assault women, saying that gender-based violence is unacceptable and should not be allowed to thrive in a climate of tolerance.
