One of the less known victims was Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, who served two years in prison over alleged participation in plotting the botched coup.

According to a Standard publication released four years ago and written by Robert Amalemba, the politician admits that he was part of the team that plotted the same.

Then a commerce student at the University of Nairobi, Onyonka says that he was arrested alongside 156 other students and Kenyans and charged with sedition.

"Campus life took a turn for the worse after the 1982 attempted coup by Kenya Air Force soldiers. Majority of us joined the plotters and I56 of us were arrested among them Amani leader Musalia Mudavadi. Many including myself served two years in jail for sedition and attempted coup," reads the article in part.

Most popular persons in the coup attempt were Senior Private Hezekiah Ochuka, the main plotter who was to become President, and his associate Pancras Oteyo.

ODM leader Raila Odinga also served several years in orison over possible involvement and would later on, in his book Flames of Freedom, admit that he played a slight role in the coup.

The air force army men held the country for six hours before forces loyal to Moi regained control of the country.
