In recent weeks, calls to have Dr Fred Matiang'i running for president have intensified across Kisii and Nyamira, even with former critics joining the team.
Notably, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi and County MP Jerusha Momanyi, joined forces to back Matiang'i, something that caught many people by surprise.
From Nyamira, only Shadrack Mose of Kitutu Masaba, Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) and Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), are yet to join Matiang'i's team.
But with even leaders like Simba Arati joining the team, Dr Matiang'i owes credit to Senator Okong'o Mogeni, who has been reaching out to leaders on behalf of him.
Speaking recently at Riamoni area, Mogeni insisted that Matiang'i has energy and zeal to bargain on behalf of Abagusii community in future.
"I want to assure you that the future is here. We must ensure that we support our son Matiang'i. I am reaching out to all leaders so that we speak in one voice," he said.
A fortnight ago, Mogeni organised two major meetings that saw leaders from the two counties convening at Ben Momanyi's home in Borabu to endorse Dr Matiang'i.
Days later, he facilitated meeting at Matiang'i's office that brought together 15 MPs from Nyamira and Kisii where they discussed about development.
"Senator Mogeni is doing a good job. I am happy that he has explained to us why we should support Dr Matiang'i. He deserves credit," said Mrs Momanyi.
On Friday, Dr Matiang'i will be in Kisii and Nyamira where he's expected to launch three police stations. A host of MPs are expected to attend.
