Political analyst Samuel Omwenga has predicted a win for Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential race, should his rival be ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The commentator says that as things stand now and judging by their political strategies, the DP would beat Raila while riding on his generosity, which Raila is not.
He observes that unless the former Prime Minister opens up his banks to let the cash flow out, to match the DP, who has been generously dishing out monies, then he will be shown dust.
This, he states in an article on the Star, must factor-in in Raila's campaign strategy no matter who is in his camp in the alliances likely to shoot up in the run-up to the much-awaited contest.
"Putting aside the question of whether that is true or not, it is obvious if Raila was to give Ruto a run for his money, he has to burst wide open his bank accounts and let the money flow and every source he can muster to counter Ruto’s financial muscle, otherwise, he’ll see dust come 2022," Omwenga says.
The commentator warns that should Raila stick to his character of withholding money during campaign seasons, not even the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta will be of any help.
"That remains true, even if Uhuru remains committed to the handshake and BBI to the end," he adds.
He also notes that Kenyans should expect an exodus of politicians into the DP's bandwagon from now, having seen his height probability of carrying the day.
He says that to align themselves with the dining side, Ruto will soon be receiving bigger delegations of politicians into his camp.
