Vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna has sensationally claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta was behind Friday's arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Miguna claimed, without providing proof, that Uhuru and Sonko are 'close drinking buddies', saying the President has turned against the Governor because of his alleged war with his deputy William Ruto.
"Kenyatta's arrest of Sonko has nothing to do with the "fight against corruption." Uhuru imposed Sonko on Nairobi and they have been close drinking buddies. Uhuru should take Ruto head-on instead of fighting through proxies," he said.
In a series of tweets, the exiled lawyer protested the manner in which the flamboyant politician was apprehended, terming it inhumane and waste of taxpayers' money.
"Sonko should have been summoned to Central Police Station or EACC head office in Nairobi then arrested, charged and taken to court in a regular manner. Wasting millions of shillings to fly 150 police officers to Voi was a waste of public resources," he posted.
Miguna further blasted the local media for reporting that the Governor was 'resisting arrest', and for failing to expose the police officers who he claimed assaulted him.
"When Mike Sonko's human rights were violated by numerous police officers who publicly pinched, kicked and pushed him even though he was unarmed, the compromised media reported that "Sonko resisted arrest." Police carry guns. They must conduct themselves LAWFULLY ALL THE TIME," he added.
Miguna, who was trounced by Sonko in the Nairobi gubernatorial contest during 2017 general election, is a fierce critic of the county boss, who was arrested over allegations of corruption.
