While his supporters insist that he's running for president, a number of MPs have come out and publicly opposed the move, arguing that they will support DP William Ruto.

Senator Okong'o Mogeni has however, been categorical that the hard-working minister will go for president, no matter the landscape of politics.

"We are sure that as a community, we can negotiate with other communities. The CS has come of age and we are ready to have him as president," said Mogeni in a past event.

But a source who did not wish to be mentioned said Dr Matiang'i could end up running for MP Borabu constituency. According to him, the move will help him join cabinet under the proposed constitutional changes.

"We are expecting BBI to recommend some changes that would reintroduce PM post and deputies. He will run as MP then get appointment to cabinet," he said.

Last month, a local daily revealed some of recommendations by BBI other the team dismissed the report. It's believed that cabinet under the expected changes, will have MPs serving in cabinet.

The claims are closely corroborated by Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, who in a past interview preempted that Matiang'i will contest for DPM post.

"He will not run for governor. When we do changes, we expect him to run for Deputy Prime Minister post. That's a guarantee and it will happen," said Momanyi in a past interview.

Should the minister run for Borabu MP seat, he will face competition from among others, Patrick Osero, who lost closely to Mr Momanyi in the past two polls.

Already,  Dr Matiang'i is reportedly backing Mr Momanyi for Governor Nyamira County, a move that could also irk political temperatures in the region.
