Kenya's first lady Margaret has called for strong action to be taken on climate change.

Speaking during a forum staged under the auspices of the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KICI) at the Nairobi Hotel, the first lady recognised the importance of the private sector's role in combating the spectre of climate change.

She said that technological innovations would go a long way in ensuring Kenya develops climate change resilience.

“Technological innovations are central to climate change resilience. There are, however, some innovations and technological solutions that are out of reach of the intended beneficiaries who continue to bear the brunt of adverse weather conditions, " she said.

Climate change has long been a pet cause for Margaret Kenyatta, helping create awareness on a bewildering array of issues around the climate change issue.

She was also joined by Environment cabinet secretary Keriako Tobiko.

The Kenya Climate Innovation Centre launched its strategic plan, a blueprint of how it is going to help in the battle against climate change.

The Jubilee government has demonstrated its commitment to dealing with climate change having seen the banning of plastic bags in Kenya, joining the ranks of few countries that have done so.

Single use plastics have also been banned in a number of places.
