A Kenyan was shot five times during a suspected Al Shabaab attack on a joint Kenya-US army base in Manda Bay that took place on Sunday morning.
Reports further indicate that Mwalimu Chengo, the deceased, was killed at Magogoni, Hindi Ward by the terrorists while heading for the camp.
The reports of the death of the Kenyan national in the attack have been confirmed by the government officials.
The body of the late Chengo was transported to Mpeketoni mortuary.
The family of the late further revealed that a friend of the deceased had witnessed his death.
“He has been working there as a shamba boy for quite some time. We spoke to his friend who saw the attackers who were in military uniform and he explained how he was shot,” Josphat Ponda, the brother of the deceased told Nation.
Hindi ward MCA Anab Haji pointed out that her office was in the process of getting in touch with the bereaved family.
“My office received information that there is a body that was taken to Mpeketoni. We are following it up with the family,” she stated.
The government had earlier on claimed that there was no local casualty in the attack.
Five American soldiers died during the attack.
