A young football player tragically died after collapsing on the pitch during a tournament.
Moses Ayoo Awuoth of Rai Green Stars football club in Kisumu County died on Sunday in the middle of a match where they were taking on Renja football club at Ragumo grounds in Kolwa Central ward, Kisumu County.
According to Rai Green Stars club coordinator Hesborn Ochieng, Ayoo slowly went down lying flat on the ground, adding that there was nothing that occurred within the match which led to the player’s collapse.
“We saw Ayoo going down slowly, lying flat on the ground in the middle of the game, we stopped the match and rush to see what could have happened,” said Ochieng.
The player's situation worsened even after first aid attempt, something that made them call his father who quickly responded.
He advised them to take the player to a nearby private hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“He died just a few meters to Wema hospital,” Ochieng.
The incident shocked onlookers and entire Football Kenya Federation Nyanza North Branch leaders who have since been sending their condolences messages to the bereaved family, friends, and Kisumu football fraternity.
Ayoo was a form two student at Kisumu Boys High School.
His body was taken to the Kisumu county Hospital morgue.
