Meet Oliver Peter, a Hivisasa writer who is based in Kisumu. Oliver has been writing for Hivisasa over the last three years making him one of the long-serving and consistent contributors on the platform.
As a local-based writer, Oliver has been publishing content that has led to impact in his community. In an interview with Hivisasa, Oliver tells us that the urge to give voice to his community motivates him to publish content geared towards creating impact.
“I get the motivation to write impact articles so as to ensure that community members going through various challenges are heard and that they receive the support they yearn for,” says Oliver.
Oliver tells us that he is humbled every time he learns that his story has had an impact. He states that it is always a good feeling to know that he can utilize the Hivisasa platform to achieve impact.
Oliver has been instrumental in covering storing about drainage, education, and health in his native Kisumu county. Like any other venture, Oliver has faced several challenges while covering impact stories.
He points out that the main challenge is engaging local leaders while attempting to get their feedback on various issues affecting residents. “ Some people in positions of power are not always willing to admit that they have failed the public and offer necessary support,” said Oliver.
As a way of tackling these challenges, Oliver says being patient while pressing the leaders is key as it helps in getting the desired feedback.In his parting shot, Oliver tells us that we should expect more impact stories from his side.
