Conflicting reports have emerged over the whereabouts and the health status of retired President Mwai Kibaki.
This is after reports indicate he has been admitted at the Nairobi Hospital after he complained of pain on his knee.
According to The Star, Kenya's third Head of State was admitted at the health facility on Monday, days after he returned from treatment in London, United Kingdom.
"Mzee was taken to the hospital for some check-ups but we are praying for him,” a family source told The Star.
However, Ngari Gituku, the private secretary of the retired president, dismissed the reports saying Kibaki could have checked in but he has not been admitted.
“It could be one of the medical facilities where he occasionally seeks medical attention. That doesn’t mean he is there,” he told the local publication.
Gituku described Kibaki, 88, as 'cheerful and alert' noting that his age has not taken a heavy toll on him.
"Despite his age, he is buoyant and lucid. Very alert! However, Kenyans go wrong to expect that at his age, he would remain as agile as Kipchoge. However, he is far much better than his age could allow," said the private secretary.
The reports come days after Kibaki's predecessor, Daniel arap Moi, was admitted at the same hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
His press secretary Lee Njiru said Moi is 'alert and conscious of his surroundings'.
