Emmanuel Kipchirchir and Daisy Jepkemoi on Saturday won senior races in the inaugural Bishop Cornelius Korir memorial peace cross country race held in Eldoret.
Kipchirchir won the 10kms race after clocking 31:32:3, and was closely followed by Alfred Barkach in a time of 31:40:06.
“The race was good but competitive. I thank God that I emerged the winner, I used the race to prepare for the Kass Marathon 10kms race scheduled for 17th November 2019,” said Kipchirchir.
Last week, Kipchirchir won the University of Eldoret cross country race.
Meanwhile, Jepkemoi who recently won the Isaiah Kiplagat memorial Ndalat Gaa race, won the senior women contest in a time of 35:45:9.
“The race was very competitive and the weather was not conducive since it was very hot, but I tried my best to emerge the winner. I am using this race to prepare for Turkey's cross country scheduled for November 27, 2019,” said Jepkemoi.
The race is meant to commemorate the life, achievements, and most importantly the peace that the late Bishop Korir was advocating for.
Bishop Korir, who died on October 30, 2017, was instrumental in peace efforts in banditry prone areas in the Rift Valley.
