The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Monday successfully opposed a bail application by Ibrahim Taraiya, a supermarket supervisor caught on camera last Tuesday assaulting a teller.
In a tweet, the ODPP noted that Ibrahim should remain in police custody.
''ODPP opposes bail application by Ibrahim Taraiya, supervisor @Eastmatt Kajiado who today pleaded not guilty to assault charges,'' said ODPP.
The ODPP opposed the bail application noting that Ibrahim could interfere with witnesses and was a flight risk.
The Prosecution noted that he had attempted to run away into Tanzania. The court was also told by the Prosecution led by Solomon Njeru that Ibrahim had threatened Sarah before.
A Kajiado Law court declined to release Ibrahim on bail.
According to a video which went viral on social media last week, the supervisor was seen assaulting a female teller, Sarah Atieno in the supermarket.
The two are employees at Eastmatt Supermarket which is located in Kajiado.
He was arrested on Saturday and is expected to remain in custody as investigations into this matter continue.
The supermarket's management confirmed the assault and noted that they had suspended the employee.
“The individual in question acted solely and has been suspended with a report officially being filed with the Kajiado County police (who) are handling the matter accordingly,” part of the statement from the supermarket read as quoted by Nairobi News.
