The sudden political friendship between Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi appears suspicious.

Initially, Sonko was linked to Elachi's ouster from office, an impeachment that was spearheaded by ousted Majority Leader Abdi Guyo.

But on Sunday, Elachi, who has since recaptured her office, heaped praises on the governor, terming him the best serving governor so far.

First, Sonko has also been linked to Elachi's return and Guyo's exit, meaning that the two could be up to something, hence the truce.

It is very likely that she was brought back so that the governor can clear his name, and heap the blame on Guyo, who has been fighting him.

By so doing, Guyo was to appear the sole villain in the City Hall unrests, making his ouster justifiable, which appears to have worked so far.

It is worth noting that both have a war with Guyo, and being (Guyo) closer to the MCAs, they realized that they had to join hands against him.

The fact that Elachi's return was marred with violence and destruction of property directly means that her return and truce with Sonko had nothing to do with the Jubilee Party intervention.

Otherwise, all Jubilee MCAs, who are the majority, would have embraced her, which would have seen her smoothly take over without any resistance.

Also, Elachi appears to be endearing herself to the governor, to avoid future collisions which might see her thrown out again.

This way, she will automatically take over in the instance that Sonko is thrown out of the office with regards to his ongoing corruption cases.

The fact that Sonko lacks a deputy makes Elachi the second in command, and taking over would make it easier to achieve her 2022 ambitions.

At the same time, Sonko who is a populist leader must have thought that bringing Elachi back will make him great before the female electorate.

This way, he will have it easy getting their vote in 2022, by telling then that he rescued one of their own who was being fought by Guyo, a man.
