Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been crowned the spokesperson and political kingpin of the Muslim community in the country, Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi has said.
In a tweet on Sunday, Gedi said Joho has been entrusted to lead Muslims having demonstrated his courage and leadership capabilities.
"As Muslim leaders, we have crowned the Mombasa Governor H.E Ali Hassan Joho as the political National Muslim leader and spokesperson. Joho's leadership, determination and courage has earned him the coveted seat," the vocal legislator said.
Gedi's remarks come at a time when a section of Coast leaders have been pushing Joho to go for deputy prime minister position in the next government.
During Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting in Mombasa on Saturday, Coast leaders proposed expansion of the executive to create positions of prime minister and 2 deputy PM posts.
"To ensure that all regions sit on the highest decision making table, we propose expansion of the executive by providing for the President, Deputy President, a Prime Minister, and two (2) Deputies."
"These positions added, to the two Speakers in the Senate and the National Assembly, Chief Justice and the Attorney General make up nine (9) top positions in the country. It is a recommendation that these nine (9) top positions are shared equally among the regions," read part of resolutions of the Coast people to the BBI task-force, as read by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi.
Joho, who is also the deputy party leader of Raila Odinga-led ODM, is serving his second and final term as county boss.
