Some alliances may come as surprise. But this is Kenyan politics where the unthinkable happens.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala remains a political giant despite his recent struggles in the political arena.

And in 2022 he could be out to prove to those who have prematurely written his political obituary that he is still the 'Balala of those days'

Balala remains a precious political asset. And whoever makes a move for him ahead of the next poll, stands a chance to reap benefits from whichever deal that they will make.

With Deputy President William Ruto showing an insatiable appetite to sway the Coast region away from ODM leader Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minster faces an uphill task keep the DP at bay. And with Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa gone, Balala becomes a key man in Raila's political equation.

A Raila-Balala deal will not be just like any other political alliance. Both parties stand a chance to benefit, with Raila keen to ring fence his Coast turf from Ruto's encroachment and Balala using Raila's political muscle to make a political comeback after nearly a decade in the cold.

Raila and Balala have worked before. They were all members of the famous 'Pentagon' that took the country by storm in the run to the 2007 election. So, you never know. Balala and Raila could work together again.
