A 25-year-old woman was on Monday evening arrested with bhang worth Sh5,000 in Nguluni market, Matungulu sub-county in Machakos county.
Area chief Chris Johnbosco Ndambuki confirmed the arrests. He said that he and his four assistants were able to nab the suspect after a tip-off from members of the public.
He said that the lady identified as Rashida Habibi Sakwa was operating in a hotel in the market while selling bhang in secret.
"We went to the place thrice before we could arrest her. We found her with 10 rolls of bhang and 220 grams of unpacked bang," said Ndambuki.
Rizla papers and rolling apparatus were also found with the suspect.
Ndambuki said that the operation will continue to ensure drug peddling ends in Nguluni.
He said that residents have been complaining of increased drug peddling in the area.
"We have been receiving complains from residents about the sell of the drug but we had to wait and gather the necessary information before making our move. Anyone involved in this business should know we will come for them," he said.
The suspect is held at Nguluni police post awaiting arraignment in court on Tuesday.
