Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has continued to snub calls for him to join President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession battle, arguing that he's keen to serve the people.
For months now, Dr Matiang'i has been under pressure to declare his interest in the State House race, with top politicians endorsing him for the big seat.
Senator Okong'o Mogeni, Governors James Ongwae and John Nyagarama have specifically been leading calls to have Matiang'i join the race.
Speaking in Borabu on Friday, Dr Matiang'i said his main interest is to serve the people of Kenya in his capacity as a government minister.
Further, he said, "God's time is the best and when doors are opened, nobody will block the way for anybody including him."
The Interior Minister asked local politicians to work as a team by shunning unnecessary political hatred which he said would sabotage development.
"You have to work together as a team and that's important. I will continue executing my tasks as bestowed upon me by the president and the people of Kenya."
Speaker Moffat Teya asked residents of Nyamira to work closely with the minister, adding that as county leadership, they will also give him moral support.
"He's serving our interest at the government and there is need to always pray for him. As the assembly, we shall also support his good intentions for the country," he said.
