Be aware of conmen in town who can easily dupe you in various ways. Pinpointing a fake cheque from an original one can be baffling especially if you don't know how to go about it.
These are the simple ways to recognise a fake bank cheque;
1. Look for the bank logo
All cheques must be embedded with logos of respective banks to indicate its genuineness. Try holding the cheque against light and be keen when looking at it. A fake one lacks the logo or it may be invisible. Whereas, an original one has a logo encapsulated on it that is visible on the light.
2. Look for the cheque number
This is also another way of telling whether your cheque is fake. All original checks have numbers. The number tends to appear on the top right-hand corner. A fake one lacks it.
3. Look for the MICR line
Note that the line should be in ink, not printed. This line appears at the bottom of the cheque. Try touching or rubbing your fingers against the line to feel its texture. It should be at least rough. The ink should also be dull and not shiny. If it is shiny, then it is fake.
4. Check the signature
You already know how to identify a forged signature from the real one. Forged signatures have trailing edges that end abruptly.
