The Kenya Airline Pilots Association’s (KALPA) had warned of a looming strike over the hiring of pilots on a contract basis but later shelved the plans.

The pilots had vowed not to report to work starting this Friday despite the fact that the airline’ s board had affirmed that it will not make an about-turn on the employment of the pilots at the firm.

The pilots have now opted to cancel their plans to allow for more room to deliberate over the matter. The officials from the KALPA are yet to disclose their official position over the matter even as the crisis deepens.

“We will come up with an official position and share. I cannot disclose more at this time, KALPA Secretary General Murithi Nyagah told Citizen Digital in a phone interview.

Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer Sebastian Mikosz has affirmed that the contract hiring process will pave way for the local talent to benefit from the firm. He has said that there is nothing wrong when the pilots are hired on a contract basis.

He went ahead to blame the KALPA officials for frustrating the management with unreasonable demands from time to time.
