Deputy President William Ruto could be assembling a group of political heavyweights to popularize his presidential bid as he lays the ground for his 2022 political plans.
Dr Ruto is seen as the leading contender in the President Uhuru Kenyatta succession race and as he embarks on his ambitious political odyssey, the DP is seemingly not leaving anything to chance.
After visiting Taita Taveta County at least twice in a period of one week, is the DP plotting to take over the region from the ODM leader Raila Odinga? Perhaps, yes.
With Taveta MP Naomi Shaban attending all the meetings, the DP could have identified the veteran lawmaker, in Parliament for four terms, as a reliable and efficient person to drive her agenda in the region.
Long seen as the President's ally, Dr Shaban has of late been gravitating to the Ruto axis.
And during another meeting with the DP on Friday, Dr Shaban criticized BBI, saying it is meant to revive the political fortunes of some leaders.
"The BBI report has been hijacked by politicians who are now using it to seek political mileage," the legislator said as the DP insisted that his march to State House is unstoppable.
If Ruto is to rely on Dr Shaban as his main person on the ground to conquer the Coast region, then he would have big considering her political stature.
Together with area Women Representative Lydia Haika, Dr Ruto could just found the right formula into the region.
