Police in Iten have arrested a suspect in connection to a defilement case involving eight pupils.
Confirming the arrest, Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner Ahmed Omar said the suspect was linked to sodomy and defilement of school children.
Commissioner Omar said five girls and three boys from Kapsio Primary School were defiled by unknown people, adding that three of the victims are pregnant.
He said details of the incident emerged on Monday which led to the arrest of three suspects who are currently in police custody.
Omar said the area assistant chief was asked to record a statement with the police after he failed to report the incidents when they occurred for action to be taken.
“So far, the area assistant chief has recorded a statement and the police have launched a manhunt for other suspects,” said Omar as quoted by the Standard.
The commissioner said they held a meeting with parents from the school on Tuesday and urged them to work with the police to ensure the culprits are arrested.
A class one pupil narrated how she has been sexually assaulted by a neighbour only identified as Mzee for the last three months.
“Every time I arrived home from school, Mzee would come to our house, remove my trousers and pant and do something immoral to me before my mother could return,” she said.
