The coup, which targeted former Executive Director Magarer Lang'at, saw him beaten up and ejected from an ODM meeting for allegedly undermining Raila.

Organisers of the coup accused him of claiming “the party is dead” and that Mr Odinga is old and should resign.

Police officers, who were outside the Orange House in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, whisked Mr Lang’at to safety, saving him from the attackers’ wrath.

And on Tuesday, Buke, a close ally of Mr Odinga, who was the temporary beneficiary of Magarer's eviction, says he was sponsored by Mr Owalo and Otuoma.

In his confession, he argues that Magarer had blessings from the current Secretariat members Oduor Ong'wen and Judith Pareno and were after rocking Raila from within.

Mr Otuoma, then running for National chairman post and Owalo, paid for an office for Buke besides providing security for a week. Raila would later appoint Ong'wen as Executive Director.

"He didnt give up. He again sponsored the eviction of Magerer to clean Rutos moles in the party and secure Mzee's leadership. In fact when I declared myself ED, I was given the ED's office by Owalo who had acquired it from MCA Otieno," he said.

"Owalo and Hon Paul Otwoma paid for my security 4 the week when I was in office after our coup. Pareno and Oduor Ongwen were supporters of Magerer. Actually oduor called me and protested against the orange hse coup," added Buke.

His revelations comes at the time sources claim that Raila will kick out a number of Secretariat members ahead of 2022 polls preparations.

Last week, reports emerged that the Secretariat bangled ODM nominations for Kibra in favour of Imran Okoth, forcing Raila to refund nomination contributions to losers.

But in a statement through his spokesman Dennis Onyango, Raila admitted anomalies in nominations but dismissed claims that it forced him to refund former aspirants.

Among those targeted in the impending purge include National Elections Board chair Judith Pareno, Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen and Director Recruitment Rosemary Kariuki.
