Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has reacted after Ethiopian athlete Kenanisa Bekele missed Eliud Kipchoge's World marathon record by two seconds.
Bekele, a revered world-class athlete, who has been struggling with injury, missed the record by a mere two seconds.
Writing on Twitter on Sunday, Murkomen expressed relief at the development, saying it was too close.
'Kenanisa Bekele misses @EliudKipchoge ‘s Marathon World record by 2 seconds. Phew that was too close. Thank God Our Kipchoge’s records survives," Murkomen tweeted.
Kipchoge's world record stands at 2:02.37.
The Kenyan athlete has been training hard in a bid to break the record by running under 2 hours in his next marathon.
Among those who have wished him well is Sports Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohammed.
Kenenisa Bekele is the record holder in the 5,000 and 10,000m races, and boasts of winning gold medals in various global tournaments.
Kipchoge and Bekele are regarded as the world's most accomplished athletes, with their names being mentioned in the same breathe as retired Jamaican 100m champion Usain Bolt.
