Opposition leader Raila Odinga has vowed to support the Judiciary in its quest for independence from the other two arms of the government.
Speaking at the burial of Justice James Otieno Odek, Raila claimed Judiciary is a crucial arm of government whose activities should not be interfered with by the Executive.
"We will stand with you in the face of judicial independence. We will always stand with you. So that you don't become again subservient of the executive," Raila stated.
Raila who doubles up as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader claimed that he had discussed the issue of Judicial independence with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He pointed out that the fight against corruption will only be successful if the Judiciary is stable.
"A presidential petition can be heard in a spun of within three weeks, why should it take years to find a common criminal guilty?"
The opposition leader was, however, quick to point out that the Judiciary may also be partially blamed for its woes.
"Sometimes you find that the Judiciary itself is becoming also an impediment to the war against corruption," he said.
Chief Justice David Maraga had initially complained over mistreatment and interference by the Executive.
Maraga and other top judicial officers consequently skipped Jamhuri Day celebrations.
