The meeting to launch a water project at Gatitu was disrupted after two groups; one supporting area Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu and the other backing area MCA Simon Muturi clashed as the CS watched helplessly.

Chaos erupted after Kiunjuri invited Muturi to address the gathering, but he (Muturi) was forcefully removed from the dias by rowdy youth who demanded he must not speak to them.

When he was given a chance to speak, Wambugu threw a jibe at Kiunjuri and Muturi, who are said to be supporting Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, and accused them of using national government projects to campaign for the next election.

“The project we are launching today has been financed by President Kenyatta. If anyone thinks it’s their money let them go home," he said.

"We will not allow anyone to mislead us. We must focus on assisting President Kenyatta secure his legacy, instead of politicking," Wambugu added.

Reacting to the incident, Miguna revisited the March 9, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and opined it had failed to achieve its purpose.

"This is the national cohesion, unity, inclusivity, peace and tranquility Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta are championing in Kenya? Tell that to zombies! The handshake was a con-game!" Miguna tweeted on Sunday.

When Uhuru and Raila met at the Harambee House about 15 months ago, they identified nine issues which they believed divide Kenyans and announced formation of the Build Bridges Initiative (BBI) to come up with recommendations on how to address them.

However, it appears that rising temperatures due to 2022 succession politics may be a huge blow in the efforts of achieving unity and peace in the country.
