This is despite the fact that his own Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who has twice been Raila's presidential running mate, has also declared interest in the presidency.

But the vocal leader now says that the former Premier is best suited to lead the nation, and not Kalonzo, whom he on Sunday described as a "weak decision-maker".

And while he said that Kalonzo would be a better pair of hands on matters taming corruption and protecting Kenyans' monies, he says Raila is "leader Kenya has always missed”.

However, he took a stand against the two leaders' push for a referendum, noting that the nation's problem is not the laws and few leadership positions but the runaway corruption.

“We need to concentrate on redeeming the country from the yoke of corruption and stop obsessing with power and creation of more centres of power,” he told the Standard.

He further accused Uhuru of not doing enough to keep his promise of leaving Kenya a corruption-free republic.

About the government's apparent inability to create enough job opportunities, he said its time the nation shifted attention to business and agriculture, which he said would provide jobs.

"If we got only two million Kenyans, and had each create jobs for 10 people, we will have 20 million people in employment easily. What the government needs to do is provide a conducive environment for business and agriculture sectors," he added.
